Here Is one of them. Paul plays bass and is joined by Ringo Starr on drums. Also along for the ride are Linda McCartney on keyboards/backing vocals, Dave Edmunds and Chris Spedding on guitars/backing vocals, and Jody Linscott on bongos/backing vocals. Ringo’s wife, Barbara Bach enjoys the performance from the sidelines. Not Such A Bad Boy, unlike many of the other tunes featured in the film and soundtrack, was actually first introduced in the film. It was recorded sometime between early November 1982 and early May 1983 and, of course, appeared on the movie soundtrack released on October 22, 1984.

Note: Originally this post featured the La De Da promo video, but since this video has been pulled by You Tube, I have modified the post to feature the actual press kit (EPK) for the Vertical Man album which has some good snippets of La De Da and other songs on the album along with some interesting commentary from Ringo Starr. Enjoy.

The Cooler was a short promo film for Ringo Starr’s Stop And Smell The Roses album that was directed by 10cc’s Kevin Godley and Lol Creme. It was filmed in southwest London in mid-January 1981 by Paul McCartney’s MPL Communications and stars both Paul and Linda, along with Ringo’s new wife, Barbara Bach. At nearly ten minutes, it features three songs from the LP: Private Property, Sure To Fall and Attention. The first and third were written by Paul, while the second, as you are probably aware, was a big Carl Perkins hit, back in the day. All three tracks were produced and mixed by Paul and include Ringo on drums and lead vocals, Paul on bass and piano, Paul and Linda on backing vocals and Wings guitarist Laurence Juber on guitar (wow! Ringo McCartney & Wings!). Paul also mixed and produced these three songs. The film was shown at the Cannes Film Festival and I read an opinion somewhere that it was a kind of “kinky” film, but I’ll say no more about that. Although the film did little to help with the sell of the album, the album, in hindsight is probably Ringo’s best of the late 70′s/80′s era.

The Stop And Smell The Roses LP also contained contributions by George Harrison. George composed the song Wrack My Brain which, along with Private Property, was released on a single. George produced and mixed this track along with Ringo’s cover of You Belong To Me. John Lennon also had plans to help out with this one too, but sadly, the events of December 1980 kept this from happening. There are even other big name contributors including Stephen Stills, Ron Wood, Harry Nillson and Jim Keltner, to name a few more. Bottom line: if you don’t already own this album, it just might be worth checking out.

Welcome to this week’s edition of the BROW. It’s not quite your typical Beatles rock ‘n’ roll fare this time around, but you never know what you’re going to get into with these Beatle-people, do you? In early May of 1985, CBS began the filming of their account of the classic Alice In Wonderland. Playing the part of Mock Turtle was none other than Beatles drummer extraordinaire, Ringo Starr. The show aired on December 9th, 1985 and featured a clip of Ringo singing a song called Nonsense. A soundtrack was later released but this track was not included, nor has it been on any other of Ringo’s official releases, compilation or otherwise. There is a YouTube clip, if you’re interested in catching more of Ringo in his turtle suit here. By this time, Ringo had been in a respectable number of films, including Caveman a few years earlier with his soon to be Misses, Barbara Bach.
