This week’s video feature focus’s on John Lennon, who would be celebrating his 70th birthday tomorrow. I encourage everyone reading to remember John tomorrow.
This concert footage was recorded on July 1, 1964, at the sixth and final show for Melbourne on the tour. It was videotaped for Australian television to be shown as a one hour special sponsored by Shell Oil. You Can’t Do That was a great rocker from John that first appeared as the B-side to the Can’t Buy Me Love single, earlier in the year. I really wish the camera could have been on John during his guitar solo, but I read somewhere that John actually requested to not be, as he was nervous about messing up. I’m not 100% sure on that, so if anyone else has heard anything about this, feel free to comment. The concert concluded with Long Tall Sally, and with mere bars to go before it was over, an eager kid sprinted on stage and ran straight to John to shake his hand. John merely laughed, shook his hand and finished the song. I guess he was thinking You Can Do That, after all. Having achieved his goal, the fan was willingly led offstage by the police.

Outstanding video of the Fabs! They were at their peak in terms of performing their own material live. YCDT was a favorite of mine in those days. I enjoyed Ringo's drumming on the record version, especially the fills.
