George Harrison visits VH1 in 1997

George HarrisonIn 1997 George Harrison visited VH1 for a short chat with host John Fugelsang and was talked into performing a few songs on acoustic guitar while he was there. In his company were Ravi Shankar and his wife, Sukanya. George performs the Traveling Wilbury Vol. 3 tune If You Belonged To Me (sung on the album by Boo Wilbury aka Bob Dylan). Not included in the clip is his performance of All Things Must Pass, Any Road (later released on Brainwashed) and with Ravi Shankar, Prabhujee.

It wasn't George's guitar. Fuglesang says it was a guitar owned by somebody who happened to be in the studio; he didn't know who.

I also wanted to add that this was a fitting video for this weekend as it was Ravi's 90th birthday celebration. I enjoyed several great public radio pieces devoted to the great man. I had the opportunity to meet him on his 75th anniversary tour, and though he is slight, meeting him in person his stature is tremendous.

With George he absolutely change pop music. Paul Simon, Peter Gabriel, and Vampire Weekend (not to mention countless others) would have been hard pressed to blend world music with rock. Gratitude.

Very beautiful. I remember watching this in '97 or so. I think however, that I most remember the piece with Ravi. I recall buying Shankar's album at that time and truly loving the last track, where George was clearly audible.

George presents himself so differently than Ringo and Paul do. No mugging, or incessant flashing of the victory sign. George is so dignified and stately. I sure do miss him.

I spent spring break with Chris O' Dell's memoir Miss O' Dell. It was light weight but offered generous insight into life at Friar Park. I think of George a little differently now. It is worth reading if one likes rock star stories, which I do.

Prabhujee was very nice. I have the audio of it only.

I Like that thought, lennonista. George was indeed a strong & gentle spirit. Our world if poorer for his loss.
Mark, I've never seen this clip...I've only heard the audio. Thanks. Long Live George

So beautiful and so intimate... really made me melancholy. George was a strong and gentle soul.
