Welcome to this week’s Beatles Rarity Of The Week.
Yes, there were lots of arguments and bickering amongst the Beatles in 1968 during the sessions for their infamous White Album. Ringo even quit the band at one point. Yet you can’t say that there wasn’t still good times between the four of them too. Any nay-sayers need only look at the picture I’m including with this post to set you straight. Oh, but that was just a photo session, you say? Of course they’re going to behave themselves then. How about in the studio? Listening to this week’s offering though, it’s hard for me to imagine that they were not having fun recording it. It’s such a fun song! This is a rough mix of Everybody’s Got Something To Hide Except Me And My Monkey. A recording of this take was slightly cleaned up to create the mono mix that was issued in some countries outside of the US (the US did not issue a mono White Album). John penned the song during his trip to India with the other Beatles earlier in the year and The Beatles ripped through this vibrant take of it on July 23, 1968. Those of you that are familiar with the master version will hear a few differences here. Some vocal overdubs are yet to be added and there are a few extra screams and effects here that were taken out of the account we hear on the album.

Note from the author: You just might detect a slight bit of vinyl crackle here. This is from an acetate. I like to think it adds to the charm of it.
