Wasn't John the one to employ Phil Spector for the "Let It Be" album. That album is at the opposite end of the "get back to basics" approach with all the strings and choirs. John was getting sick of the studio trickery increasingly employed by the Fabs & he wanted to GET BACK to basics. ....This single would have gone a long ways toward achieving those goals.
